Humber Help project aims to help co-ordinate information-sharing between all those whose lives are affected by the chaos of homelessness and the wide variety of local organisations that provide services of support to those in need. The project mission is to improve the communication of homelessness services and issues on three levels:

• making those caught in homelessness more aware of the services and support available to them, providing daily information of help that is immediately available.

• helping organisations, also, to have a greater understanding of the variety and extent of services available to the people they’re supporting, enabling them to direct clients to additional support, and encouraging partnership-working to the benefit of all.

• helping the public to have a deeper understanding of all issues around homelessness, providing opportunities for volunteering, and encouraging development of more informed responses to the issues.

Audio interviews and photo portraits.

Portraits from the Moved project by photographer Jerome Whittingham

Most people can pinpoint one experience of art – a piece of music, an image, a film, a fashion statement – that impacted upon their life, made them stop in their tracks and consider their situation. Art has an influence upon our lives, moving us, changing us, forming our identity, shaping the culture of our communities. This project explores art’s impact upon individuals in Hull, adding to the current conversation in the city about the value of the arts to our communities, and revealing untold stories of how art has moved those who, in turn, influence the city.

Portraits and podcasts published via a bespoke website, designed by Jerome:

Butterflies and Battlefields aims to illustrate, in a very accessible way, ‘What’s happening?’ as families respond to the conflict of dementia.

The ebook for this project has been downloaded over 3,000 times, and was available from the website:

Buzz Media – youth media project and studio. Director

Buzz Media was established to engage young people, aged 14 to 18, in media activities exploring many issues relevant to young people, including: health, sexuality, employability, politics, gender, and more.

The project ran a bespoke photographic studio, and was one of the few non-school projects to be an authorised delivery partner of ‘Smart Moves’, the then alternative education provider for the local authority.

The project provided education for up to 15 14-16 year olds each day, those that were at risk of exclusion from school, or who had circumstances which prevented their attendance in mainstream education.

Buzz Media all delivered much enrichment work to supplement the provision of training to young people not in education, employment or training (‘NEETs’) for a number of youth organisations in the city.

Buzz Media employed one youth worker directly, provided an apprenticeship placement, and worked in partnership with Hull City Council’s Youth Development Service.

Young Roots Heritage Project – exploring the heritage of East Park, Hull. Lead Artist

2008-2009, Hull City Council Youth Development Service, Heritage Lottery Fund.
